Frisco Band
Frisco Band Update - Week of February 22nd
Dear Frisco Band Family,
First and foremost, we hope that everyone is safe, has seen their electricity fully restored, and has access to clean water. We also hope for minimal or no damage to your home. However, we know that many of our families may still be experiencing difficulties with these basic needs- please know you are in our thoughts. Don't hesitate to reach out to the Band Staff if there is anything we may be able to do to help. This week has proven to be another tremendous challenge- our Band and Color Guard families have persevered through so much over the past 12 months, along with everyone else in our community. We are confident we'll get through this as well!
By now you've likely heard that FISD is planning for school to be virtual and asynchronous for all secondary students this coming week (Feb. 22-26). In light of this, please note the following adjustments and plans, and mark your calendars! The Band Staff has been working hard to make sure the remainder of our semester is a successful, and a great experience for our students.
All teachers will be posting assignments for each day this week in CANVAS- students will need to carefully note that certain activities will count for their daily attendance, as class times will be a-synchronous for everyone. Accordingly, the Band and Color Guard staff will be posting information for class in Canvas each day by 8:30 am. *Wind Symphony woodwind/brass students- please check your email for a special message regarding MONDAY'S class.
Any student who does not have his or her instrument/Color Guard equipment at home- please fill out this form immediately. We are awaiting word on a day when we can schedule pickups from the Band Hall.
Private Lessons- we encourage all students enrolled in private lessons to take those lessons this week at their regularly scheduled time, to keep up their progress. Please reach out to your lesson teacher ASAP to confirm your schedule.
The Student Leadership Interest Meeting that was scheduled for Monday, February 22nd, has been moved to Monday, March 1st- we will meet the same times as originally planned (also applies to the Drum Major interest meeting)
Our Spring Party, to be held outdoors this year at Warren park, has been moved from Saturday, February 27th, to Saturday, March 27th. Students, get excited for some fun with your band friends!
The recording deadline for the UIL Solo Contest (Woodwind and Brass players), has been moved back to March 19th. We have been working with our piano accompanists to adjust our schedule so that students can STILL have two rehearsals and their recording session- an experience we feel is so important to the process and students' musicianship development. Students who have signed up to play a solo- be on the lookout for your revised schedule to be emailed to you in the next few days.
The February Percussion Solo Contest has been moved to Saturday, March 20th. The annual Percussion Studio Concert has been moved from Friday, March 26th, to Friday, April 16th.
Color Guard- be on the lookout for communication from Mr. Leikness with updates on rehearsals and recording sessions.
We will have a SPIRIT NIGHT at Chipotle (Tollway and Warren location) on Monday, March 1st- please plan to order dinner for your family safely through their app or website! Click here for details and instructions.
All of these changes are reflected on the updated Band Calendar. Students, please follow your Canvas courses closely this week for Band and your other classes. We will work to update you with any new information there, along with daily assignments.
The Band Staff truly hopes everyone is safe and healthy. Please reach out to us if there is any way we can help!
Sincerely,
The Frisco Band Staff
