Frisco Band
Solo and Ensemble- Final Details
Greetings Frisco Band Parents and Students,
Please click here for the Final Performance Schedule for Saturday’s UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest attached (students who are playing at our make-up event next Wednesday, Feb. 27th, are also listed). The listing for solo performance times comes first, and is sorted by students’ last name. The ensemble performance schedule can be found after the solos, and is sorted by ensemble title. Please note: The schedule posted at the event Saturday may differ in some instances from the attached schedule- follow the attached schedule! YES, parents may attend and watch their students' performances :)
All students should carefully note their TIME and ROOM NUMBER for their solo and/or ensemble. (For Saturday’s UIL contest, corresponding physical building room numbers are found on the chart on page 4 of the attachment.) It is recommended that performers arrive at Plano East Senior High School at least 1 hour prior to their first scheduled event. If there is a substantial gap between their two events, they may leave the contest and return an hour prior to their second event. Campus maps and room maps are included at the end of the attached document.
IMPORTANT: Students must present the original copy of their music upon entering the performance room. Solo originals will be handed to students in band classes on Friday, February 22nd. Anyone who is absent from class Friday should email Mr. Simon and Mr. Courtney to meet in the warmup area upon arrival at Plano East, to retrieve their original.
As a reminder, transportation to and from Plano East Senior High School on February 23rd is not provided by the band- parents, we appreciate your help in ensuring your student arrives at the appropriate time! Solo & Ensemble contest is held at Plano East Senior High School: 3000 Los Rios Blvd., Plano, TX 75074
Please note the following information on PARKING from the contest hosts: All wind event participants should park in Lot 8 as identified in the site map. Warm-up will be in the cafeteria (lower level of building 2).
ATTIRE: Dress in a professional manner – “Sunday Best” is a good starting point. This is ‘performance dressy’ as opposed to ‘social dressy’ or a costume of any kind.
What type of dress/attire is appropriate?
For gentlemen, a dress shirt or plain golf style shirt w/collar, tucked into dress pants and BELT (through loops and fastened), dress shoes and socks. Dark, solid colors are typical for musicians’ attire but are not required. Ties are typical but not required. *Suits and/or sport coats are not typically worn for this event. Gentlemen must be clean-shaven with dress shirts tucked in and with a belt passing through all loops and fastened in front.
For ladies, dressy pants are appropriate, or a skirt or dress below the knees, regardless of the presence of tights or lycra. Upper arms, shoulders and torso should be completely covered. Dark, solid colors are typical for musicians’ attire. Comfortable fit and modesty while performing are both a must.
What NOT TO WEAR:
No jeans or denim (not even black jeans or colored denim)
No shorts, lycra or skin tight leggings/ mini dresses or sweaters over lycra
No t-shirts or casual, collar-less shirts (i.e., t-shirts, under armour)
No flip flops or flip flop style shoes, strappy sandals, tennis shoes, Converse, prom type dress shoes, or Toms/super casual footwear
No hats, sequins, or other costume type items or accessories
CONTEST RESULTS (Feb. 23rd @ UIL): The UIL office has sent out a direct link that can be accessed by students and parents to view to this year’s UIL S&E Contest Ratings for our school. Using this link, you may ratings as soon as they have been scanned in the Contest Office. Since this feature will allow us to see the ratings in “Real Time”, the UIL will not be posting ratings at the contest site. Click here approximately one hour after your performance to view ratings!
Please direct any questions regarding the schedule to Mr. Simon, at simond@friscoisd.org.
