Summer Band Camp Reminders

Greetings Frisco Band Family,

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer- we are looking forward to getting started this week and welcoming everyone back! We see our student leaders and Drum Line members beginning Monday, with everyone else reporting Wednesday morning (click here for the full summer schedule).

Student Preparations for Camp

Included in our summer newsletter (which should have made its way to your mailbox in early July), were our guidelines for managing one’s health during rehearsals, as well as a required supplies list- click here, see pages 4 and 5; please review it carefully. While we will continue to be extremely careful in monitoring the heat and ensuring students have ample opportunities to stay hydrated, this is an outdoor activity and these measures are only effective if students come prepared.

  • It is imperative that all band and color guard members report to camp with all required supplies, including full water jug, hat, sunglasses, cooling towel or hand towel (see below), and sunscreen. Note: Student leaders will bring water jugs for new members to camp on Wednesday morning, full of ice water!

  • Loose, light clothing (T-shirts and shorts), with tennis or athletic shoes.

  • Special cooling towel, or normal hand towel: We will dip these in ice water and wear them around our necks to stay cool! Some great options can be found here

  • Hydration: Students should spend the next few days before camp drinking WATER with all meals, and striving to drink an extra glass between each meal. Proper hydration starts days in advance, not at the beginning of rehearsal.

  • Consider attending our next Sunday Night On the Field this Sunday, to get some exposure to the heat before camp! See below.

Parent Volunteers Needed This Week

We have two important opportunities for parents to get involved and help the band before we do the bulk of our volunteer sign-ups at band registration on August 4th:

  • Band camp chaperones: Two parents at each of our outdoor rehearsal sessions, to assist students who may become dehydrated, etc. (parents sit in the shade!) If you can help at one or more rehearsals, please contact Band Booster Volunteer Coordinator Amanda Klemm: asklemm@yahoo.com

  • Uniform Fitting Helpers: Assistance with fitting students for their uniforms beginning Wednesday and Thursday afternoons this week, and likely Monday and Tuesday the following week. If you can help one or more of these afternoons, please contact Uniforms Co-Chair Liset Kline: LisetGR@hotmail.com

Next “SNOF” is tomorrow!

Students, come get a little more acclimated to the heat. SNOF (“Sunday Night On the Field”) is a Frisco Band tradition each summer, when the band comes together to play games and have fun on Sunday nights. It’s a great way to make more band friends, and to get acclimated to warmer weather before marching season begins. We meet from 7 – 9 pm at Warren Sports Complex (Click here for the map link); gather by the tennis courts. Students are encouraged to bring basketballs, volleyballs, soccer balls, frisbes, etc… and be prepared to have fun! Bring a full water jug! Remaining SNOFs: July 22nd, August 5th

Band Pin Stack Party- Not too late to sign up

We are pleased to be able to make sign-ups for our party at Pin Stack this Friday available just a bit longer. The deadline to sign up is now this Wednesday (July 25th) with an absolute deadline for payment of the same day. It’s going to be a great time; we hope to see all students there! Click here for the flier.

  1. Fill out the online RSVP here

  2. Pay online with Paypal, or bring a check to the first day of Band Camp on Wednesday. Checks should be made out to “Frisco Band Boosters”

Please contact Mr. Simon with any questions- simond@friscoisd.org. We look forward to seeing everyone soon, and getting the 2018 season underway!!

Sincerely,

The Frisco Band Staff
